Dental implants replace natural tooth roots with substitute roots when teeth are missing. Once an implant has been set, it can be fitted with a crown to restore the lost tooth. In addition to replacing missing teeth, implants help maintain a stable, healthy jaw and can improve your smile as well as ability to chew.
Implants require surgery using local anesthesia or mild sedation. Once an implant heals (usually 3-6 weeks), we attach a small connecting post (called an abutment) to the implant. Then, a crown is fabricated and secured to the abutment, restoring the tooth. With proper care, implants can last 25 years or more.
