Inlays and Onlays
Similar to crowns, inlays and onlays can repair teeth requiring large restorations or fractures that aren’t extensive enough to require a crown. Inlays and onlays enhance the strength and appearance of a tooth and can help prevent a future fracture or nerve damage. Composite inlays and onlays can also be used to replace silver fillings and create a more natural smile.
Both inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain, gold or a composite resin. Fabricating an inlay or onlay is similar to a crown as the process requires two visits:
- To make an impression of the tooth for fabrication and install a temporary acrylic inlay/onlay
- To attach and set the inlay or onlay to the tooth with bonding cement and a special light source
